To the west of Montgomery lies one of the largest dairy farming areas in Vermont. To the east lies the most rural, pristine and beautiful area in Vermont, known as the Northeast Kingdom. The Vermont of wonderful skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling in the winter months, and fabulous hiking, bicycling, lake-side swimming, boating, and fishing in the summer. Of unbelievable beauty during the Autumn Foliage season, and, in the spring, of unbelievable tastes and smells from the sugar-houses in full production of Vermont's "Liquid Gold" - Maple Syrup. We offer an opportunity for you to discover this magical place. When you visit our inn, we will provide you with a FREE "Day In The Kingdom" map. This map presents five tours to explore the region's cultural heritage. These are leisurely, self-guided day trips along the backroads of the Northeast Kingdom. We also offer, for rental or sale, the accompanying audio tape "A Day In The Kingdom", filled with music, songs, stories and reminiscences that will help you enjoy your driving tours.
VICTORIAN VIEW leads the way into the cultural and architectural legacies of the late 1800's, an era of prosperity, grace and splendor. ROUTE THROUGH HISTORY traces the Bayley-Hazen Military Road, built during Revolutionary War times, and today brings you through historic landmarks and scenic villages from Peacham to Montgomery Center. BORDER CULTURE opens a window on The Kingdom's rich Franco-American heritage. Along the northern frontier from Montgomery Center to Newport , Vermont and Quebec traditions mix and merge, creating a culture all their own. FARMS & BARNS loops through a panorama of farmscapes, introducing visitors to the customs and traditions of The Kingdom's rural life. And in the far reaches of the Northeast Kingdom, steeped in the lore of the logging camps, timber drives, furniture mills, spring sap runs and maple sugar shacks, THE KINGDOM FOREST beckons.
