Most people think of Vermont as a wonderful place to spend their
winter vacation. And they are right, it is. As the poem on the right tells you, Vermont is a place of warmth and beauty in the winter that emits a feeling of "Home". It's a place time has forgotten. It's a place where you put aside the demands of a busy life and take a more leisurely view of the world.

But, Vermont is so much more than just a winter playground. Our seasons are luxurious in their offerings. Spring is our renewal time, when the sap flows from the maple trees and the cows are sent back out to pasture.Visit us in March or April and enjoy one of the many "Sugar On Snow" parties offered by the local sugarhouses. Or spend a day visiting Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream and Cabot Cheese to see how their award winning Vermont foods are made. May and June are perfect for quiet get-aways.

A Winter's Eve In Vermont
On a cold and wintry night
As our Green Mountains turn to white
Songs of Yuletide fill the air
To welcome friends and families here

Crackling fires and candle light
Bring warmth into this blustery night.
Snow falls lightly to the ground

Blanketing all without a sound.

Puffy quilts and flannel sheets
Cakes and cookies, pies and sweets,
The smells and sounds and sights are clear
Reminding you of yesteryear.

Snowshoes, ice skates, mittens, skis
Are found beneath our Christmas trees.
All images you see and feel
Tell you this place is very real.

A country inn, antiquities,
A village lane of snow decked trees,
A peaceful haven, this village scene,
Where life is quiet and serene.

Step back in time, this blustery night,
As our Green Mountains turn to white.

Summer brings the opportunity to explore our uncongested roadways by bicycle, motorcycle or automobile. We are offering our guests a map of 5 new driving tours of the Northeast Kingdom. Our 10 area golf courses are one of the biggest bargains in Vermont. Of course we have several "old fashioned swimmin' holes", some with waterfalls, for those that want to cool off. Fishing and hiking opportunities are plentiful. Perhaps you would like to browse through the many antique shops that dot the countryside, or attend one of the local auctions to find that special bargain you've been looking for. Visit our
Activities page to read more. Summer here is awesome.

Autumn. Foliage. Need we say more? It only lasts a short while, but it is undoubtedly the most beautiful time of year in Vermont. Visit our
Foliage and Driving Tours pages for some fabulous pictures, and we'll be happy to take your reservation right now! Or, come on up for Thanksgiving weekend. We serve an old fashioned family style Thanksgiving dinner, and Jay Peak usually opens their winter ski season that weekend. A real live "Over The River And Through The Woods" experience.
Anytime of year is a picture perfect time in Vermont, and The Inn On Trout River wants to make it perfect for you. We "Welcome" you to our Web Site as we hope we can "Welcome " you to our inn.
