The Jay Peak Region's Premier Country Inn is located in Montgomery Center, a Vermont Historic District, and is surrounded by mountains, rivers, forests and fields. With 7 Covered Bridges, Montgomery is known as the "Covered Bridge Town" of the Green Mountains.

The Inn On Trout River was built over 100 years ago by C.T. Hall, a local Lumber Baron. His family occupied the house until the early 1940's. It was run as a B&B for a number of years and then, in the late 1950's, was converted to a full service inn, named the Corinthia Inn. During the early 1980's the inn's name was changed to The Inn On Trout River. The original building has undergone several interior reconfigurations, but, to this day, retains the charm and elegance of a country Victorian home. It is this charm and warmth that has appealed to visitors from all over the world for nearly half a century.

The Honeymoon Suite

A Victorian Style Room

A Country Cottage Style Room

Spacious and inviting, our century old inn has 10 guest rooms, all individually decorated, all with private baths, queen size beds, down quilts and feather pillows. There are fireplaces in the main dining room and sitting room, and a Montgomery Soapstone Stove in the split level living room/library. We have a two room family suite that sleeps four people, with a queen size bed in one room and two twin beds in the second room. Our "Honeymoon Suite" (also known as the Run Away Parents Room) features a queen size brass bed and a Franklin stove.room 3 panarama

In the evening, the 2 level living room/library is the perfect place to relax while comparing notes with other guests about your day on the slopes, your
scenic drive, or the bargains you found in one of the area's many antique shops or auction houses. Or, you may want to spend your quiet time enjoying a game of cards or darts, or perhaps reading one of the hundreds of books offered in our library.

Then snuggle into your queen size bed, under your down quilt, for a pleasant and restful night's sleep. In the morning you'll awaken to the aroma of fresh brewed coffee and the anticipation of our famous breakfast menu. Delightful, delectable and delicious! Fluffy towels, private baths, queen size beds and the best restaurant in the Jay Peak region. The Inn On Trout River. A little bit of heaven right here in Vermont! You'll feel at home the minute you walk through the door.
skieractivities buttonRest, Relaxation and Recreation. That's what this special kind of Stress Management is all about! A few nights stay at the inn, some wonderful food and great activities and recreation opportunities fill out your days away from the "real world".

Winter is the prime recreational season in our area. Jay Peak Ski Resort provides excellent ski conditions from November through April. There are six other major ski resorts within an hour's drive, including Stowe, Smuggler's Notch, Burke Mountain, Bolton Valley and the Canadian Resorts of Owl's Head and Mt. Sutton.

With the VAST trail system just 100 yards from the inn and Hazen's Notch X-Country Ski Center 1½ miles away, snowmobiling and x-country skiing are great reasons to come to the inn during the winter months.

Spring and Summer are also excellent times to visit the region and "get back to nature". Hiking and mountain biking trails abound. Golfers will enjoy 10 nearby, uncrowded 18 hole courses including the brand new champion 18 hole course at Jay Peak. Rivers, lakes and streams offer excellent fishing, boating and swimming opportunities. There is even an old fashioned swimming hole a short walk from the inn in a breathtaking setting of forest and waterfalls. Photography buffs will fall in love with our 7 Covered Bridges. Additional photographic opportunities might include many of our older homes and barns, hundreds of varieties of birds and wild life, or our picturesque countryside. Antiquing and country auctions are also plentiful and another favorite way of relaxing.

For the less ambitious, a morning of shopping, a stroll up to the Trout River Traders General Store, a game of badminton on the back lawn or a lazy afternoon watching the river flow by are all possibilities.

foliage photoThe beautiful colors of autumn bring hundreds of visitors to the Montgomery area each year. Foliage season lasts only a few weeks, but it is the most spectacular time of year to visit.

Whether it's a holiday, birthday, wedding trip, anniversary, family reunion, get-away-weekend, or "personal reward" escape, the Inn on Trout River is your "home-away-from-home", and we'll leave the porch light on for you. Check out our
Activities pages for more information on things to see and do, or our Sports pages for more recreational opportunities.
